SPRAY GUNS: LUBRICATION Q: Doesn't the ease with which you pull the paint gun trigger depend on the gun lubrication?
A: Not necessarily. It is true that if the trigger is not properly lubricated it will be more difficult to retract, but other factors also come into play. For instance, there is a spring that forces the trigger back into position and also a packing that prevents paint from leaking from the gun. Clearly, a strong spring will affect the ease with which you can pull the trigger, and a tight packing will do the same.
Having said that, recently I saw a painter shoot paint all over a spray booth because when he released his grip on the spray gun trigger it froze due to a lack of lubrication. What a mess! Needless to say, after he cleaned up the floor and wiped down the machine he was painting, he completely disassembled the gun and did a thorough cleaning job. This time he lubricated everything that needed to be lubricated, and he took no chances. One mess was enough for him.
