SPRAY GUNS: ORIFICE SIZE Q: Doesn't the orifice size of your spray gun also depend on the type of paint sprayed?
A: Yes, absolutely. If you are applying a low viscosity coating you might need to install a small fluid orifice, whereas if you are applying a high viscosity coating, such as an underbody coating for the chassis of motor vehicles, a larger orifice will be more appropriate.
The spray gun vendors publish tables that suggest the size of orifice and cap required for different types of coating. Bear in mind that when you change the fluid orifice you must also change the needle and in most cases also the air cap. They must be a matched set!
