standards for volatile organic compounds (VOC)

Q. Would you please let me know the European / American standards for VOC emissions in a paint?

A. I can't hep you with European standards, but in the United States we have many regulations that control the emissions of VOC. The "standards" are different for each type of industry and often for different types of coatings.  for instance, we have regulations for automotive assembly plants, automotive refinishing shops, plastic parts, electrical appliances, metal office furniture, miscellaneous metal parts, architectural coatings, and many more.

Within a specific regulation we have different limits ("standards") for primers, topcoats, single-component coatings, plural-component coatings, etc.  This is quite complex.
