ODOR CONTROL FROM SPRAY BOOTHS
Q. The Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality receives many citizen complaints regarding odors from auto painting businesses. Any recommendations on odor control technologies affordable for a small business?
A. Due to the high air flow rates passing through an auto body spray booth (usually in excess of 10,000 cfm) it is not, in my opinion, cost justifiable to add an abatement device to a spray booth to control odors. Again, in my opinion, this would probably cost several $100K to install and at least $10,000 per year to operate. I am not aware of any inexpensive method for abating the emissions.
If and when water-borne automotive refinishing paints become available, this might solve the problem. But don't hold your breath on this one.
